Given we work with clients’ chosen occupations as the primary media, and clinical tools are a secondary eclectic mix enabling the occupation, the occupations create meaning and value and generate motivation differently than counsellors, psychologists, nurses, etc. because we help clients apply skills to their occupations

The transitional period from student to qualified occupational therapist can be a daunting one.

The MOHO provides some good grounding for thinking about the individual as an occupational being. Also useful is theories such as Occupational identity, occupational justice and deprivation.

It's not just for Occupational Therapists, but for any staff working at this hospital.. and I've found

Participation,Environment,Autonony,independence,Assistive technology, purposeful activities,

1. Advocating agency and choice for all. 2. The right of all individuals to be wrong and to make bad decisions 3. ......also the right to experience the consequences of those decisions. 4. Belief in the possible and supporting others in that belief 5. The continual search for, and sharing of, truth and evidence. If you cannot espouse those principles, you can overlay your practice with all the models of practice, assessments, analyses and other stuff that you like but your practice will have no solid foundation, no everlasting value.

Activity analysis, relationship centred care, interdependence

Pragmatism, understanding that there is no one size fits all approach, thinking outside the box, , and 'what does an OT do again?'

Client-centered, creative, evidence-based, meaningful and empowering!
