- Pursuing a degree in occupational therapyIn Student Spaces24 February 2024Best answerHey! What you'll need to do is look up the program's requirements. Every program is different, and they should have a place on their website (through the university) telling you the requirements. If you still can't find it, see if you can find and contact an advisor within the program who works with students who are interested. My university often held group advising sessions for students who were interested, and the advisors also held 1-on-1 private meetings too. :) These required classes will be taken while also completing your undergraduate degree. Hope that helped, and good luck!!!10

- Sustainable Practice in Occupational TherapyIn The OT Journal Club7 June 2019Amazing article @POOJA JETHANI40
- Sustainable Practice in Occupational TherapyIn The OT Journal Club10 June 2019I valued the section on encouraging sustainability through clinical reasoning, it made me consider this in my own setting. As the only OT in the mental health team I feel I have the skills to consider the social, cultural and environmental sustainability. Considering ways To adapt the environment to promote social inclusion through communities. This article highlights well the importance of adapting environments well, in a busy world we someone forget to consider this but it is important. I think that the cultural element can often be missed, it is important to adapt out use of models to explore this further with our clients. To develop the paper further it may have been useful to explore evidence in practice to support the different types of reasoning. I would also have liked to see more critical analysis of research in practic. I agree for a role for OT due to the evidence that healthcare and the medical model fail to consider the sustainability of the social and cultural environment. There is a lack of preventative work or in health promotion of adapting environments to meet the clients needs. Services and their eligibility can often dicate care and fail to place the person at the centre of things, using a sustainability lens may help this issue.40

- Sustainable Practice in Occupational TherapyIn The OT Journal Club13 June 2019Yes @Abi Matthews, you are correct about the cultural aspects. For an OT to be efficient in that, you either need to belong to the same culture or study and understand the cultural aspects of that population in depth. But it can play a major role in client participation and the intervention process. One reason of lack of evidence could perhaps be the lack of published research. That is why we should start working towards sustainable practices. But obviously, this is more so a common lens for the public health and environmental sectors. Which should be an encouraging point for us to reach out to them and work together to attain the sustainability goal. We know as OT's we can be useful, but when we share approaches, we would have a better vision of how and where we can be most useful.3
- Sustainable Practice in Occupational TherapyIn The OT Journal Club26 June 2019I think recycling adaptive equipment is a key practical sustainable action. As OTs, we often see equipment no longer being used (such as trolley walkers doubling up as plant stands :) or large stocks of medications no longer being taken, sitting in cabinets !30

- The role of Pelvic Floor Muscle Training in Women's Health Occupational TherapyIn The OT Journal Club24 January 2020I'm so glad this topic was chosen for review. I am a recent OT grad and just completed my Master's thesis on sexuality and older adults. Women's health is definitely on my radar as an area I might like to specialise in. I'm unsurprised by the results of this study, the PFM training in the postpartum benefits sexual function. I'm wondering how this might change in countries other than Iran where sexual concerns is perhaps not discussed with health -professionals. I would also be interested to see results from a pre-post test design. However, I'm wondering if anyone has resources on specific interventions an OT can implement in this field, perhaps links to further training, or places to start learning about Women's health and OT as I am more familiar with these interventions from a physiotherapist. Cheers!20
